“In visual perception, a color is almost never seen as it really is—as it physically is. This fact makes it the most relative medium in art. In order to use color effectively, it is necessary to recognize that color deceives continually.”—Josef Albers
Josef Albers (born 1888-1976) became known as the 20th century's authority on color theory. His work not only formed the basis of many art education programs, but continues to influence painters, sculptors and architects. Our first color study is inspired by Albers’ investigations on relativity, hue, tone and intensity. The limited edition Blue Collection pays ‘Homage to the Square’ by offering our best-selling carryalls in a midnight blue pebbled leather.
